Mediterranean Congress for Internet

ESTIC and IFA (Alicante Fair Institution) promote the holding of a congress of the highest level of the many issues related to Internet. The appointment is from the 24 to 26  September in Alicante (Spain) and will include top-level conferences, roundtables and 24 workshops.
Under the name Mediterranean Congress for Internet, the purpose of the event is to meet over the weekend to some of the most renowned experts and companies, nationally and internationally, which are leading the revolution of the digital economy.

The Mediterranean Congress for Internet will be held at IFA and due to the dates, excellent climate of Alicante, good communications and the ambitious program of conferences and workshops, the event will appeal to visitors from all over Spain and from abroad.
The Congress aims to bring together experts, specialists and leading providers of ICT-related services so that companies can share their experiences, success stories and best practices to maximize the possibilities opened up by new information technologies.
The Congress is divided into three different areas in parallel: Online Marketing, Webmasters, and Web hosting service providers, with the completion of 24 top-level workshops, divided into three areas:
- Online Marketing: with great experts in marketing search, experts in social media, Web analytics, corporate online reputation, persuadability, the Community Manager role ...
- Webmasters: programming for mobile devices, advanced scheduling optimization and content management systems  Wordpress and Joomla Word Press and APIs programming, e-commerce, usability ...
Web Hosting Service Providers: Presence of the major hardware and software providers in the sector as VMWare, Xen, Microsoft, HP and business experts in cloud computing, virtualization and clustering.
Also during the conference will be held three plenary lectures on top-level Internet businesses in the auditorium of IFA. And finally we will held three roundtables on Social Networks vs. Search Engines, Web Programming Mobile Android Vs IPhone, server virtualization and Hyper-V vs. VMware vs. Xen, where all attendees would see the different points of view from the major ICT players in the world today and participate with questions to experts in each area.

e-Invoicing expert group starts work

Brussels, May, 2008 - EU Electronic invoicing (e-Invoicing) is the electronic transfer of billing and payment information between suppliers and buyers. The European Commission sees it as an essential part of an efficient financial supply chain. However, at present, barriers including technical complexity, legal uncertainty and operational constraints stand in the way of widespread uptake of interoperable cross-border e-Invoicing solutions.

e-Health 2008 conference

Slovenia, 6-7 May, 2008 - The conference will highlight solutions to eliminate various barriers in European healthcare. These barriers are either geographical ones, like those between healthcare providers, regions and states, or communication difficulties among the various players in healthcare systems which include users, healthcare workers, management, and regional and national authorities.

NO to the Microsoft Office format as an ISO standard

Brussels, 2 April, 2008 - ISO members failed to disapprove the Open XML format. Microsoft has compromised the International Standards Organisation (ISO) during the rush to get a stamp for their Office Open XML (OOXML), using unfair practices such as committee stuffing in several countries and political interventions of ministers in the standardization process. A vote by national members of ISO indicates a majority for the controversial Open XML format. OOXML received 75 percent approval votes of p-members of JTC1. In order to get its format safely through ISO, Microsoft had to stuff committees, lobby ministers, mobilize business partners, and rewrite the ISO rules. The rush for Open XML started with the adoption of Open Document format (considered a danger for the market monopolist Microsoft) the ISO standard for office documents (ISO 26300:2006).

European ICT standardisation policy at a crossroads

Brussels, 12 February, 2008 - Given the critical importance of an efficient European ICT standardisation policy, the Commission has organized an open meeting to present and discuss the recommendations of a recent study on "The specific policy needs for ICT standardisation" to analyse the current state of European ICT standardisation policy and to present recommendations for its future development. The European standardisation system aims to balance industrial requirements with society's expectations and to provide public authorities with the standards they need to help them implement legislation in support of agreed policies.

PIN-SME: the voice of ICT small and medium sized enterprises in Europe

PIN-SME is an association formed in 2007 to represent the interests of Europe’s ICT SME sector. Currently ten national and regional associations are members, representing some 50,000 ICT SME companies that account for around 200k jobs. PIN-SME aims to ensure that ICT SMEs get talked to rather than just talked about. It provides a voice for ICT SMEs in the policy and business arenas and is already represented in several EU expert groups and taskforces.
